Thoughts on superhero summaries?

I feel that the list should be kept as uniform as possible. At this point I think that we should either have flavor text (short descriptions) for all, or for none. At this point I think that erring for none should suffice. The superheroes/characters listed have their own pages for detailed information, and I think comics publishers suffice for information. For some of these, maybe some sourcing, since Jewish isn't mentioned in the character biography on their own page. (Is Booster Gold included, just because his last name is Gold?)

Superman

I once read some interesting speculation (not sure where) that Superman had to be Jewish, in light of the "el" in "Kal-El" and the fact that his creators (at least one of them) were Jewish. DC Comics, as far as I know, has never commented on this speculation. Eastmain (talk • contribs) 22:20, 24 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think Peter Parker is Jewish, though he is certainly 'Jew coded', if you'll forgive the phrasing. His habit of using Yiddish for instance, and his alleged status as a stand in for his creators. Peter B. Parker, of the Spider-Verse movies seems to have had a Jewish wedding ceremony, though that could be MJ's side of the family.

There's some points against this however. First is his wedding to MJ in the comics which is much more Christian seeming - there's a priest, it's in a church etc - but like with above, this could have been MJ's influence. Secondly in the Ultimate Universe, when Peter dies, his public funeral takes place at a church which, while not named explicitly, appears to be the St Patrick Cathedral in New York. In the Raimi movies, we see that Aunt May is at the very least Christian, given that she's attacked by Green Goblin while saying the Lord's prayer. 81.109.89.141 (talk) 00:22, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I apologise, I misremembered. In Amazing Spider-Man annual #21, which is where Peter and MJ get married, they don't actually have a Christian wedding. They get married in the steps of city hall, with MJ's uncle Spencer, a judge, acting as officient.

Interestingly however, in the same issue there's a dream sequence where they are seemingly having a more traditional Christian wedding. It looks like a church - Doc Ock is playing the organ, the guests are standing in pews, which have crosses inlaid on the visible side we see, there's stained glass windows - and while it's still MJ's uncle acting as officient, he does specifically ask if anyone has any objections to Peter and MJ being joined in 'holy matrimony', indicating this is a religious ceremony.
