Balrog´s skin
[edit]Why Balrog´s skin in Street Fighter II was white during the fights, and why in official artworks of Street Fighter II Balrog has black skin?
- ??? Pictures, please. Danny Lilithborne 23:10, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
Printed screenshots of Street Fighter II sometimes made him look white during the fights but if you see the game up and running on-screen, he's black. He doesn't look anything like his character portrait, but he's definitely black. Daigo (talk) 13:04, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
Full Japanese name of Balrog
[edit]Is Balrog's full Japanese name Michael Gerard Bison? I wonder if that is official. Mike Tyson's full name is Michael Gerard Tyson.
Nope, in Japanese it's Mike Bison, with no relation to Mike from SF1.Vasili10 01:46, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
Lawsuit?
[edit]Is the lawsuit thing an assumption or does proof exist? --Feitclub 02:27, Apr 17, 2005 (UTC)
It's an assumption, otherwise Capcom would be inviting the lawsuit itself. 84.90.24.117 (talk) 18:51, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
Balrog as Mike from SF1
[edit]Capcom denied that Mike and Balrog are the same person.
- Source? Evan1975 21:50, 11 March 2006 (UTC)
Several. The easiest to compare them side by side would be All About Capcom Head-to-Head Fighting Games 1987-2000 or the The Street Fighter 2 Movie Memorial Official Fanbook.Vasili10 01:50, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, Mike's entry in All About Capcom on page 340 says that he is considered to be a prototype version of M. Bison/Balrog the boxer. Jonny2x4 (talk) 01:27, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
And of course Capcom denied... they are too afraid to confirm. It's better retcon characters (splitting into two) than have a lawsuit or something. "Is Mike (the American boxer) from SF1 the same Mike (the American boxer) from SF2? Capcom will always say "no". Otherwise, what good would the rotation of names (vega-m.bison-balrog) do if this boxer still had his SF1name untouched? They couldn't change his SF1 name (witch was no problem - there are many Mikes in the world), but they could change the facts by official stating they are two different characters: "Balrog" and Mike. Ok, the official is what matter but... were they originally meant to be two persons?Newsblade (talk) 15:06, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

In SF2 Capcom decided to show this boxer’s full name revealing to be ‘Mike Bison’, to extent that parody (already implicit in SF1) to the American black boxer, and champion, ‘Mike Tyson’. Because of lawsuit issues Capcom US decided to change is name into ‘Balrog’. Then, the character previously named ‘Balrog’ got the name ‘Vega’ and the boss of SF2 got the ‘Mike Bison’. Because ‘Mike Bison’ was not a very appropriate name for the main villain it was reduced to M. Bison and people now call him ‘Major Bison’, 'Master Bison', 'Max Bison' 'Mister Bison' or ‘Mr. Bison’, but nobody really know what 'M.' stands for, neighter Capcom US.
However, changing names in US version of SF2 proved to be not enough since this character continued to be called Mike in US version of SF1, fact that linked Japanese SF2 ‘Mike Bison’ to the American releases of SF series, still proving that Mike’s full name was Mike Bison. To get a complete ride of possible lawsuits from Tyson’s lawyers, Capcom created the first and, until now, the major retroactive continuity in SF story by splitting this character into two: Mike, the black American pugilist and Mike (Bison) the black American pugilist.
Obviously Capcom should (and must) deny these historical facts, since after all that work of changing character’s names, retroactive continuity and other headaches; confessing this not only would be a waste of work, but also a suicide, since Tyson’s lawsuit would, once again, be a problem. However, besides the name, profession, nationality, skin color, etc., the resemblances between these two characters are clear and more evident than other street fighters that also transited, like Birdie for instance. 217.129.243.193 (talk) 10:30, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

In the original “Street Fighter” there’s a black boxer from United States with a similar appearance to “Mike Bison” (マイク・バイソン). After Super Street Fighter IV, the project manager Natsuki Shiozawa made the same “Mike and Bison”relation, and assumed them to be probably the same person!. Incidentally, the name Mike Bison became, [during the translation/westernisation process of SF2] in Europe and America “Balrog”, while the SF1 character remains “Mike” (マイク)
[…since it’s not humanly possible to go back and change already finished /released games].

Case closed, problem solved
Mike (SF1) is Balrog (SF2). At last! Capcom has stated on their official blog (http://www.capcom.co.jp/blog/sf4/nakky_blog/2010/03/26_2099.html) that both characters are "probably one and the same". 84.90.24.117 (talk) 21:29, 30 January 2011 (UTC)
From Wikipedia.

Balrog/Barlog
[edit]In the SNES version of Super Street Fighter II, Balrog's name is pronunced as Balrog or as Barlog?
- From the article: On the Street Fighter II: Champion Edition arcade machines, Balrog's name is misspelled as Barlog. In turn, the announcer in Super Street Fighter II mispronounces Balrog's name as Barlog as well. This pronounciation was also carried over into the SNES version of the game. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 09.21.856.326 (talk • contribs).

American informations should be provided on this article!
[edit]Hello there. I changed Balrog's height from 6'6" to 6'5" because the most websites with American informations describe Balrog being 6'5" tall and the Wikipedia is a website where American informations should be provided. I also removed his weight informations because there are too many different informations about his height on American and Japanese websites. Anyway, here: FIGHTER 2 || BOSS CHARACTERS || BALROG & VEGA (arcadequartermaster.com), - Mike Bison - Street Fighters - Character profile - First take - Writeups.org, • Street Fighter II- The Animated Movie • Absolute Anime, [1], are the sources where the original American informations describe Balrog, being 6'5" tall and the real Mike Tyson is described being 5'10.5" tall on several websites and also in some of his official boxing videos. I explained the reason with acceptable sources for my contribution to this article and please respect my request and do not revert. 213.162.68.237 (talk) 22:54, 6 November 2022 (UTC)
Hello. While it has been documented he was 6'5" in American releases of Street Fighter 2, it has been retconned in future American sources such as the Street Fighter World Warrior Encyclopedia, and even in Street Fighter 5, which confims that he is 198 cm, or 6'6", according to the "Lair of the Four Kings" Stage.
The sources that have been stated on your post are not only unreachable, but they are mere fansites; not recognized by Capcom itself and furthermore not a reliable source. If you can find a modern-day, reliable source that states he is 6'5", then by all means, go for it, but please make sure it is official. Thank you for your contribution.
